THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH

RECEIVING & OPERATING IN THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH

God promises to send the spirit of Elijah in the last days (Malachi 4:5) and Jesus speaks of his manifestation during his time (Matt. 11:12-15,17:11-12; Luke 1:13-17). But how does one receive & operate in the spirit of Elijah?

Seven Steps In Receiving & Operating In The Spirit Of Elijah:- (2 Kings 2:1-15)

(1) GILGAL

This in Hebrew means rolling; like a wheel or whirlwind. Gilgal is a place of Separation & Faith where one has to be separated for God and move with the Spirit like a wheel (Ezekiel 1:16-20). It’s a place where one’s faith is tested. Elisha had to be separated to God and move with Elijah by the Spirit when he was to be taken to heaven.

(2) BETHEL

Bethel in Hebrew means House of God (Gen. 28:12-22). It is a place of vow/ covenant and sacrifice (Gen. 35:1-7). You make a vow & get into an everlasting covenant with God at this point. You also prepare to sacrifice for God. To Elisha, it meant a Place of No Return & the same applies to us.

(3) JERICHO

Jericho is an Arab/ Palestinian name with no Hebrew root. It means a city of the moon or a place of fragrance. This is a place of warfare where the old (wilderness & Egypt) has to die but we must fight & overcome to receive the promise (land of milk & honey). For since the time of John the Baptist (Elijah), the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence & the violent have to take it by force (Matt. 11:12-15)

(4) JORDAN

This in Hebrew means to descend or go downwards. Similar act like baptism which means to immerse. Jordan is a place of death, ressurection & request. After you have died & ressurected with Christ you are given a chance for a request (in this case a double portion of the spirit of Elijah.** The 5th to the 7th steps are not represented by places but by actions.

(5) SPIRITUAL SIGHT

One can’t be able to receive the spirit of Elijah unless he is in the spirit & is able to see the spiritual transition (2Kings 2:10-12). You can’t receive until a transition takes place, & better still you must witness the transition.

(6) OLD IDENTITY /NEW IDENTITY

Time to get rid of what identified you in the past & embrace the new. Elisha rent his clothes before he took the mantle of Elijah. But God has a better idea for us. Rend not your garments but your hearts (2Kings 2:12-13// Joel 2:13) Getting rid of what your heart represented in the past & taking a new path. A sign of complete transformation & renewal. Reason Elisha rent his clothes? Jesus has a perfect answer. You can’t put new wine in old wine skins (Matt9:17)

(7) SEEKING AFTER THE GOD OF ELIJAH(2 Kings 2:14)

One who does not seek after God diligently & truthfully cannot expect to operate effectively in the power & anointing that God gives (Job 5:8, Psalm 9:10, Psalm 14:2, Psalm 53:2, Psalm 119:2, Isaiah 55:6, Matthew 6:33, James 5: 17-18).

Be Blessed.

Shalom!!
