A LAMP UNTO MY FEET. (PSALMS 119:105)
Many times as believers when we seek the Face of God for direction we always desire to know the plans He has for us in the immediate future, or what is about to transpire or even what lies ahead of us. This is good because in seeking that we ensure that our actions, choices and decisions always align with the Perfect Will of God. But the question is this; how much does God show us or reveal to us concerning events or activities that are about to take place in the near or immediate future? How much information does He bring to our attention? By studying the prophets we come to realize that God revealed information of events about to take place for the following Three Main Reasons:- 1)Direction/Redirection This was to direct His people on the path they have to take on any matter or redirect them by way of repentance whenever they go astray.
2)Warning To warn His people of impeding danger and what action to take about it.
3) Information To give information and knowledge concerning His ways and plans. This helps in improving His relationship with His people whereby they understand His Heart and perfect will.
In the quest to achieve the above believers have always sought to know the mind and Will of God through various means. The danger of overindulgence in this is that a room and wide loop hole has been created that is always capitalised by false prophets, diviners, fortune tellers and mediums in the name of The Lord. The great desire of believers to intricately know every next move and steps of God concerning their lives without much discernment has exposed many believers to be victimised by the above mentioned personalities who we find at the very heart of the Body of Christ. This is why it’s always important to Perpetually rely on the counsel of The Holy Spirit.
THE LAMP What’s so important about the reference of The Lamp in Psalm 119? In Ancient Israel the main source of light was the oil lamp whose light did not go very far as the flash lights we have today but was bright enough to give light to one’s immediate surroundings but not very far. The comparison of The Word of God as a lamp unto one’s feet and a light to one’s path with the understanding of the oil lamp is that it will give one enough light for every step you take as long as you’re in motion. However it will not be able to illuminate the far distance. What does this mean? It means you have to trust it to continue illuminating your path as you continue moving on. This gives us the understanding of Walking by Faith and not by Sight. If God were to show us everything that will take place in our immediate future we would no longer walk by Faith & therefore no longer need His continual guidance. That’s why He leaves out certain things & expects us to put our Faith and and Trust in Him that He will take us through. It is the continuous desire of believers to Know everything before they happen that land most of us in the hands of False Prophets and Diviners. Let us always learn to always Walk by Faith and not by Sight. For the Word of God is always a Lamp unto My Feet and a Light unto My Path. Shalom 🙏🏾
