RIVERS OF LIVING WATER Vs. CLOGGED OUTLETS & DRY WELLS
Jesus on speaking to the Jewish people told them that whoever believes on Him as the scriptures say, out of his belly shall flow Rivers of Living Water (John 7:38). This means that by believing on Christ, endless streams of water are deposited in us creating endless and outpouring overflows of Rivers bearing Life Giving Water. How does this happen, the scriptures talk of The Lord being The Fountain of Israel and The Fountain of Living Water (Jeremiah 2:13, 17:13, Revelations 7:17, 21:6). However there is a contrast to what we’ve just talked about. Peter talks in detail of people (who I believe to be believers since he was addressing the Church) who choose to walk after the flesh having forsaken the ways of God and describes them as Wells without water and also speaks of what would befall them (2 Peter 2:10-21). This would mean that even if at one point they ever did have Rivers of Living Water flowing in them, they have long dried up. But this is not the greatest danger to the Church. The greatest danger is what I would call clogged outlets. As believers we believe in Christ and that’s okay. I also believe that most of us if not all have at one time or many times prayed the prayer ‘fill my cup Lord to overflowing’. Well, the problem lies in the question how many times do we empty that cup if we ever empty it at all. The problem with believers today is that as much as we love having Rivers of Living Water within us and constantly ask God to fill us a fresh each morning there is no exit or outflow of what God deposits in us. This is what I call clogged outlets. We learn so much from God and a lot by the guidance of the Holy Spirit but the question remains; does whatever come out of us reflect the true Nature of Fountain of Living Water? It doesn’t matter how well we know the scriptures, or how well we may be known for great signs, wonders and very charismatic. If what comes out of us don’t reflect the true Nature of The Fountain of Living Water then we’re just the dry Wells Peter is talking about. Let us therefore examine ourselves; are our wells full of water? And if so, can Rivers of Living Water be found in us? If the answer is Yes again are they flowing out the way they’re supposed to or are they clogged? If all the above happens as required then the most important question is that does whatever flowing out of us Reflect the True Nature of The Fountain of Living Water??? Let’s examine ourselves and give God Glory due to His name by our unspoken but evidently visible Testimonies. Shalom!!!
